Watch: Base running error spoils Shohei Ohtani's first home Dodgers at-bat

Well, at least the Dodgers know Shohei Ohtani can hit the ball.

The two-time AL MVP made his Dodgers home debut on Thursday against the Cardinals and hit a double in his first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning.

However, he also recorded the first out of the inning for Los Angeles after over-running second base, apparently unaware that Dodgers third-base coach Dino Ebel held up Mookie Betts at third.

Ohtani joined the Dodgers this offseason on a 10-year, $700M contract. He spent his first six MLB seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.

The Dodgers kicked off the regular season in South Korea last week with a two-game set against the Padres. Ohtani went 3-of-10 in the three-game set.

He's seeking his first postseason appearance and is in excellent position to get there with the Dodgers.

They've reached the playoffs for 11 consecutive years and have the best odds of winning the World Series, according to ESPN Bet.

Crucially, Los Angeles isn't strictly reliant on Ohtani. Even with his base-running miscue and an otherwise quiet start (he walked in his only other at-bat), the Dodgers quickly raced out to a 5-0 lead over the St. Louis through three innings.
