Michigan RB Blake Corum discusses mindset ahead of CFP matchup with Alabama

University of Michigan running back Blake Corum was phenomenal during the 2023 regular season.

He put up 22 touchdowns during Michigan's 12-0 run and then added two more in the Wolverines' 26-0 win over Iowa in the Big Ten Championship.

That's 24 touchdowns on the season, with his 22 before the B1G championship making him Michigan's all-time leader in single-season rushing touchdowns. As far as his career is concerned, though, his 55 career touchdowns have put him in rarified air.

With career touchdown 55 he was tied with Michigan great Anthony Thomas. He now has a chance to be the school's all-time leading rushing touchdown leader with a good game against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff.

It was a mark that he knew was possible heading into this season, but it took a touchdown-scoring mindset in order for him to get there.

“At the beginning of the season, it seemed kind of far. But then you have a game with three touchdowns, and then you have a game with two, and then you might have another game with three. At the end of the season it’s like wow, you know, I’m right there,” Corum said in a recent news conference (h/t On3). “So every time I get inside the red zone, it doesn’t matter if there’s a stout defense or not, it’s like I got to get in. So at the beginning of the season, it did seem far, but we’re here now.”

Corum has been an absolute beast for Michigan and anytime the Wolverines have found themselves in the red zone, he's seemingly found himself in the endzone.

He had two three-touchdown games in 2023 and seven two-touchdown games. He scored a touchdown in all 13 of Michigan's games to date.
